We are thrilled to invite you to the Lincoln Center debut at Bruno Walter Auditorium in New York City on Friday, May 23, 2025.

What Is Noise began in 2013–2014 when we were all graduate students at Florida State University. Our ensemble was honored to be selected as the Young Artist Entrepreneur winners, representing FSU with a performance at Carnegie Hall in 2014. Since then, we have grown into a nonprofit organization, touring the U.S. with performances, educational outreach, and ensemble-in-residence programs. In 2019, we released our debut album, Equivocal Duration, on Centaur Records, and we are thrilled to release our sophomore album, Temporal Echoes, later this year.

As part of our 10th-anniversary celebration, we are returning to New York to honor our early years together. We’re excited to present a special concert at Lincoln Center’s Bruno Walter Auditorium on May 23 at 7 PM. This milestone performance will highlight our ensemble’s dedication to contemporary music, artistic collaboration, and educational outreach. The program will feature works by living composers and a special performance alongside the winners of our Young Artist Spotlight Competition.

The program will feature:

  • Joshua Burel – Temporal Echoes

  • Rob Smith – Sprint

  • Daniel Whitworth – Ripples in Infinity

  • Kevork Andonian – A Footstep Too Far from My Soul…

  • Ellen Taaffe Zwilich – Divertimento

  • Willie Cornish, Jr.– Accismus (Winner, What Is Noise Composer Spotlight Competition)

  • Jennifer Jolley – How to be a Deep Thinker in Los Angeles

Additionally, Jensen Thomassie’s Wander will be performed in collaboration with student winners from our Young Artist Competition, offering an inspiring opportunity for emerging

musicians to share the stage with What Is Noise ensemble members.
